Professor Helen Payne, PhD; Reg. UKCP psychotherapist; Reg. and Fellow ADMP UK.
Helen led the professional development of dance movement psychotherapy (DMP) in the UK. She initiated and led the formation of ADMP, and first government validated DMP post graduate training programme. She completed the first DMP doctorate and publications in Europe. Helen holds a Chair in Psychotherapy at the University of Hertfordshire, where she supervises and examines DMP doctorates nationally/internationally. She leads the embodiment lab housing DMP doctorates and her current research in student mental health and interoception. Trained in Laban Dance/Movement Analysis, Person-Centered and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Group Analysis and The Discipline of Authentic Movement, she is President of The International Association of Creative Arts in Education and Therapy (IACAET) and founding Editor-in-Chief for the international peer reviewed journal ‘Body, Movement and Dance in Psychotherapy’. She designed a model (The BodyMind Approach) supporting people experiencing unexplained bodily symptoms in which she trains DMPs.
